Ghana to Hold a Historic Assemblies of God World Congress 2026
Ghana is set to host the Assemblies of God World Congress 2026, a significant international gathering that will bring together believers, church leaders, and delegates from across the world. Scheduled to take place in Accra from October 14 to 16, 2026, the Congress will mark the first time the global event is being held in Africa.
The hosting of the Congress represents an important milestone for both Assemblies of God, Ghana and the broader Christian community on the continent. The event is expected to provide a platform for fellowship, spiritual renewal, collaboration in ministry, and the advancement of the Church's mission among the nations.
Historic Event
Speaking on preparations for the Congress, Rev. Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, member of the National Executive Council of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), and Local Host of the event, expressed confidence in Ghana's readiness to welcome delegates from around the world.
According to Rev. Wengam, extensive planning is underway to ensure that participants experience an enriching and well-coordinated Congress. He noted that dedicated teams are working diligently to provide an environment that reflects both excellence in organization and the warmth of Ghanaian hospitality.
He further highlighted the global significance of the Congress, noting that Assemblies of God currently boasts a membership of approximately 89.9 million, making it the largest Protestant denomination in the world.
Theme
The Congress will be held under the theme, “Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation” (Matthew 28:18–20), emphasizing the Church's collective responsibility to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples among all peoples.
Central to the discussions will be the MM33 Mandate, a global vision to plant one million churches by the year 2033 in commemoration of the 2000th anniversary of the ascension of Jesus Christ.
The three-day event will feature morning sessions dedicated to conferences and discussions addressing key aspects of the theme, while evening gatherings will culminate in major revival rallies at the Accra Sports Stadium, expected to draw massive crowds.
GPCC Support
The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has expressed its support for the Congress and its expected impact on the Church in Ghana and beyond. The General Secretary of the Council, Pastor Ebenezer Gyamera, PhD, has encouraged member churches to actively support and participate in the event.
Beyond its spiritual significance, the Congress is anticipated to provide opportunities for positive national engagement through increased international visitation and cultural exchange. Delegates visiting Ghana will have the opportunity to experience the country's rich heritage, hospitality, and vibrant Christian witness.
The influx of international delegates for the event has potential benefits to sectors such as hospitality, tourism, transportation, and local businesses.
The Special Guest of Honour, Deacon Eric Kutortse, Chairman of First Sky Group, has called on the Ghanaian business community to actively support the Congress and strategically position themselves to take advantage of the opportunities it presents.
The event will also host prominent international church leaders, including Rev. Ben Sodji Gossou, Chairman of the West Africa Assemblies of God Alliance and General Superintendent of the Benin Assemblies of God, and Rev. Lipenga Banda, General Superintendent of the Zambia Assemblies of God.
As anticipation builds, Ghana stands poised not only to host a major global religious event but also to showcase its capacity for excellence, unity, and hospitality on the world stage.
