GPCC General Secretary Calls for Christian Unity Beyond Denominational Barriers
The General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Immanuel Tettey, has urged Christians to prioritize unity in the body of Christ over dominions, titles and practices that divide the church.
Delivering a sermon at the induction service of GPCC Volta Regional Executives at Paradise Chapel International in Ho, Apostle Tettey drew inspiration from Ephesians 4:1–6, stressing the call to “endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” He reminded Christians that there is “one body and one Spirit… one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all, and in you all.”
He explained that while denominations may use different ministerial titles such as Apostle, Bishop, Right Reverend, Very Reverend, Archbishop, and others, these distinctions are human inventions that do not define salvation. “These titles don’t take us to heaven. They don’t change anything. When it comes to salvation, it is one — it is Christ, the same Jesus Christ who died for all of us,” he said.
One Denomination
Citing 1 Corinthians 1:12–13, Apostle Tettey warned against sectarianism within the church. “Some say I am of Paul, or I am of Apollos, or I am of Cephas. But Paul asks, ‘Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you?’ The answer is no. Our denominational founders played their roles, but our unity in Christ must remain unshaken.”
He emphasized that the Holy Spirit at work in one denomination is the same Spirit working in others, regardless of differences in worship style or tradition. “The Holy Spirit in Paradise Chapel is the same Holy Spirit in The Apostolic Church, Assemblies of God, Christ Apostolic, Anglican, and Methodist. It is the same Jesus we serve,” he affirmed.
The induction service, which brought together clergy, lay members, and civic leaders, highlighted GPCC’s renewed commitment to fostering both spiritual growth and national development through collaboration and unity.
