GPCC Upper East Regional Secretary Cautioned Youth Against Negative Foreign Influences

 

The Upper East Regional Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Pastor Sylvester Kusi Obuadum, has cautioned Ghanaian youth against what he termed as “blind learning” and the unrestrained adoption of foreign cultures, warning that these trends are contributing significantly to the nation’s moral decline.

Speaking on issues affecting the moral fabric of the country with GPCC News, Pastor Obuadum observed that Ghana is experiencing a worrying decline of values, largely fueled by excessive exposure to social media and the rapid spread of an unhealthy youth behaviour.

“Because of social media, a lot of things are being learned and adopted by our younger generation without proper understanding,” he said. “Many young people imitate what they see online and practice it without knowing it meaning or implications, and this has become a major contributor to moral decline.”

According to Pastor Obuadum, the challenge goes beyond social media influence. The youth fail to weigh the negative consequence of foreign cultures influences which are contrary to Ghanaian Culture.  He cited fashion trends and language use as examples, noting that some young people adopt life styles, behaviours and attitudes of foreign celebrities without knowing their true impute.

Pastor Obuadum stressed that the wholesale adoption of these practices has contributed to the high level of moral decline currently being observed in the country. He therefore urged young people to be more discerning, intentional, and thoughtful in what they learn and adopt.

He called on families, churches, and educational institutions to intensify efforts at value-based education and mentorship. He emphasizing the need to guide the youth to critically assess foreign influences before embracing them.

The GPCC, he added, remains committed to promoting moral uprightness and responsible citizenship, particularly among the youth, as part of its broader mandate to support national development.
