Former GPCC General Secretary Apostle Samuel Y. Antwi Reflects on 30 Years of Service

The former General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi, has shared reflections on his 30 years of service in Ministry.

In an interview with GPCC News on the sidelines of his retirement service, marking the end of a long and impactful career in ministry, Apostle Antwi who is an Executive Council member of the Church of Pentecost candidly spoke about the challenges he faced during his three decades of service. He emphasized that no ministry is without its difficulties, particularly when dealing with people. “There is no ministry without challenges. Most of the challenges human and not spiritual,” he remarked. “As you deal with people, you have to discipline people. People’s expectations may not always align with your actions, and some may not be happy with you because of the discipline you enforce. But in all that, you work for the good of the people.”

Transforming Lives

Despite the challenges, Apostle Antwi highlighted the successes that have defined his ministry. Over the years, he has played a pivotal role in the expansion of the Church of Pentecost, both within Ghana and abroad. “Throughout the 30 years that we have been with the Church of Pentecost, He [God] has used us to open churches and build very good structures for the church in foreign nations,” he said. However, he noted that the most fulfilling aspect of his ministry has been witnessing the transformation of lives.

The greatest of all, which is my joy, is that God has used us to transform lives,” Apostle Antwi said. “I’ve seen sinners repent, the sick healed, and barren wives blessed with children. This is the joy of ministry—the transformation in the lives of God’s people.”

Apostle Antwi also offered words of wisdom for the next generation of church leaders who will follow in his footsteps. When asked about his advice for those who are to take over, he emphasized the importance of remaining grounded in faith and committed to the transformative power of ministry.

To those that are supposed to take over from me, the new generation, my advice is simple: remain steadfast in your faith, be disciplined in your conduct, and always work for the good of the people,” he advised. “The joy of ministry comes from seeing the lives of God’s people transformed. Let that be your guiding principle.”

Some of his achievements were; Church building and mission house projects, acquiring scholarship for brilliant -but-needy students, construction of UCC PENSA auditorium, Constructing boreholes among other notable achievements.

Apostle Samuel Y. Antwi’s legacy is one of dedication, resilience, and profound impact, leaving behind a foundation for future leaders to build upon. His retirement marks the end of an era, but his influence will undoubtedly continue to shape the Church of Pentecost, GPCC and the lives of its members for years to come.
