Apostle Eric Nyamekye Calls for Peace and Unity Ahead of Ghana’s 2024 Elections

Apostle Eric Nyamekye, President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has called on Ghanaians to uphold peace and unity as the country prepares for its 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the GPCC’s 2024 Peace Campaign, held in collaboration with the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), the National Association of Charismatic Christian Churches (NACCC), the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, and the Office of the National Chief Imam, Apostle Nyamekye emphasized Ghana’s unique position as an “oasis of peace” in West Africa.

The event, themed “Let Peace Prevail,” gathered religious and political leaders to rally support for a peaceful election season.

A Legacy of Peaceful Transitions

Reflecting on Ghana’s history of eight peaceful elections in the Fourth Republic, Apostle Nyamekye praised the nation’s legacy of democratic stability, acknowledging the dedication of many stakeholders who have worked to sustain Ghana’s peace. “Our nation’s peace did not come by chance but through the contributions of committed individuals and institutions,” he noted. Citing Matthew 5:9 — “Blessed are the peacemakers” — he encouraged the country to remain a model of peace in the upcoming elections.

Calls for Unity Amid Potential Divisions

Addressing the potential risks that come with election season, Apostle Nyamekye urged political leaders and their supporters to avoid divisive political speeches and focus on national unity. “Achieving a peaceful election requires sacrifices, compromises, and concessions,” he said, calling for meaningful efforts from all parties involved.

This election marks a unique moment in Ghana’s history, with the first Moslem presidential candidate running alongside a former president. Apostle Nyamekye emphasized the importance of keeping the election free from religious divisions, urging the nation to continue its tradition of Christian-Moslem harmony. “We have long coexisted peacefully with our Moslem brothers and sisters, and it is essential that we continue to foster this harmony,” he said.

Prayers for Peace and Stability

Encouraging Ghanaians to pray for peace, Apostle Nyamekye stressed the power of prayer as a humble acknowledgment of human limitations and a call for divine intervention. “We pray to a God who answers prayers. Let us ask that He blesses our land with peace throughout this election period,” he added.

As the event concluded, Apostle Nyamekye urged the nation to make this election another chapter in Ghana’s story of peace and unity. “Together, we can uphold Ghana’s status as a beacon of stability in Africa. We have done it before, and we can do it again. When all is said and done, may we emerge unified and undivided,” he affirmed.
