Celebrating Apostle Eric Nyamekye: A Champion of Peace during Ghana’s 2024 Elections

The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) celebrates its President, Apostle Eric Nyamekye for demonstrating exceptional leadership in fostering peace before, during, and after Ghana’s 2024 General Elections. His dedication to ensuring national stability through faith-based initiatives and strategic engagements with key stakeholders has been widely acknowledged.
Under his leadership, GPCC played a crucial role in election peacebuilding, working closely through it’s National Executive Council (NEC) to engage institutions such as the Electoral Commission, the Ghana Police Service, National Commission and Civic Education (NCCE) and political parties in fostering a peaceful electoral process.
Capacity Building
Recognizing the importance of credible elections, GPCC, under his leadership, single-handedly funded capacity building programs in Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, and Bono East regions to empower members with the necessary skills to observe the elections effectively.
Additionally, he encouraged the GPCC General Secretary, Apostle Immanuel Tettey, to extend the council’s message of peace to all the 16 regions of Ghana through fellowship.
Prayer Conferences
Beyond strategic engagements, Apostle Nyamekye, a leader of deep faith, spearheaded nationwide intercessory prayers for a smooth electoral process. He also led the Prayer for All Ministers and Wives Conferences, which gathered Reverend Ministers in Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Western Regions to intercede for a credible and peaceful election.
The climax of these efforts was a grand Peace Campaign at the forecourt of the state house, bringing together Flagbearers of the various political parties, state functionaries and religious leaders, and civil society stakeholders to pledge their commitment to national unity and peaceful elections including accepting the outcome of the election. The event, which saw politicians from various parties join in a symbolic dance of unity, underscored the impact of GPCC’s peace-building mission.

Key Messages
Below are some of his key messages of peace before the election which are worth reflecting on. The few profound ones were: “This election is a bit different from the past because of the fact that there is a Muslim who is standing and there is a Christian contesting. We don’t want it to be a religious battle and so as a church we are mindful, and we are going to educate our members not to turn this election into a religious kind of battle,” he said.
“Achieving this (peace) will require sacrifices, compromises and concessions. It will demand intentional efforts and thoughtful action by all meaningful stakeholders of the land.” Apostle Nyamekye said.
Also, he urged Politicians to embark on issue-based campaigns and avoid hate speeches. There must be respect for people’s choices for peace to continue to reign.
“Elections are civic responsibilities and must not divide the country.” he said.
Indeed, Apostle Nyamekye’s leadership is a testament to his deep patriotism, commitment, and unwavering dedication to Ghana’s progress. His vision, backed by the support of GPCC NEC, has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s democratic journey. His role in ensuring a peaceful election is worth celebrating.
