The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPPC) has urged Ghanaians to embrace integrity and dignity in their campaign as they approach the December polls to be civically responsible to strengthen democracy in the Country.
The Council said Ghanaians must ensure they engage in activities to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process, advance the peaceful democratic development of the country and strengthen national unity.
Speaking on behalf of the Council with the GPCC News Team, The First Vice President of the Council, Most Rev. Sam Korankye-Ankrah noted that while an election could not guarantee good governance, it could facilitate or hinder development, depending on how it is managed.
Consultative Process
Therefore, he called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to deepen the spirit of the consultations, equity, respect for the rule of law or in simple terms, the tenet of democracy and multiparty democracy.According to him, the EC should do everything possible to prevent “unnecessary suspicions and promote a peaceful and cohesive society.”
The clergyman also urged the EC to put all the measures in place to ensure peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible elections.
“Just around the corner there is a dicey and very volatile problem of voter registration and we are asking everybody to calm down to discuss instead of conflict, because this is democracy. Let us debate, talk and have consensus to do the needful,” he appealed to stakeholders.
Most Rev. Korankye-Ankrah who is also the General Overseer of the Royalhouse Chapel International pointed out that the fact that “you are in a house with an opposing party does not mean you are enemies, it only means you belong to a different device of the situation.”The revered indicated that they should debate and talk but at the end of the day they should go to the polls to cast their votes for the candidate that they are convinced in their heart to give a good leadership to the nation.
Peaceful Election
Doing this, the First Vice President of the Council said it would ensure an atmosphere of peace and stability in order to advance the country’s democracy.
Advising Ghanaians, Most Rev. Korankye-Ankrah pointed out that “We are one people as Ghanaians and we cannot accept that elections should divide us. Therefore after casting our votes we should accept the results in good faith and move on as Ghanaians.”
He indicated that the collective efforts of Ghanaians in maintaining the peace and calm of the country would safeguard the unity, growth, development and destiny as our people.
