GPCC Engages EC to Ensure Free and Fair Elections with Church Members as Observers

The General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Immanuel Tettey, has revealed that the GPCC has successfully engaged the Electoral Commission (EC) to involve GPCC members as election observers across the Regions.

This initiative aims to ensure accountability and transparency in the electoral process, with the GPCC maintaining a neutral stance.

Apostle Tettey made this announced during his address at the GPCC Volta Regional Delegates Conference, stating that the EC has approved their request and will organize training sessions for the selected GPCC members who will serve as election observers. “By involving our members, we can ensure that the Christian community plays an active role in observing and ensuring free and fair elections,” he stated.

He also urged pastors to be cautious with their words when they address their congregations from the pulpit. “We have members who are parliamentarians and hold high offices; therefore, the Christian body should be involved in the electoral process without bias,” Apostle Tettey emphasized.

Primary Calling

He made reference to Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, the General Supritendent Assemblies of Ghana who has never publicly endorsed John Dramani Mahama to his church even though he is a member of the Assemblies of God. “Rev. Wengam believes that church members and Ghanaians should decide who to vote for without any influence from religious leaders,” he added.

Apostle Tettey stressed the primary calling of pastors which is to evangelize and win souls for the Kingdom of God rather than being heavily involved in politics. “We were not called to do politics in the church but to evangelize for the Kingdom of God. Pastors should focus on their spiritual mission,” he asserted.

Additionally, he advised pastors against wearing party T-shirts to avoid creating controversies and maintain the church’s impartiality.

The initiative underscores GPCC’s commitment to fostering a peaceful and democratic electoral process in Ghana, ensuring that every vote counts and that the election is conducted fairly.
