Apostle Samuel Y. Antwi Urges Politicians to Trade Ideas, Not Violence, Ahead of Elections
The former General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Samuel Y. Antwi, has called on politicians to focus on exchanging ideas rather than resorting to violence as Ghana approaches its upcoming election period.
Apostle Antwi emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and respect for differing opinions, stressing that political parties are platforms for presenting various visions for the country’s future, not avenues for division.
The Former General Secretary in an interview with GPCC News said “We are one nation, and political parties are just there to sell their brand and what they think will help this country. I may like yours, you may not like mine, but that doesn’t make us enemies.” Adding that, “We should all believe in one another, believe in mother Ghana, and work towards her peace. No matter who wins, the important thing is that this nation must move on, and we must remain intact.”
Peaceful Political Engagement
Apostle Antwi urged politicians to ensure that Ghana continues to enjoy the peace that has become its hallmark. He highlighted the need for leaders to foster an environment where ideas are debated constructively and respectfully, without threats or intimidation. “Let us trade ideas and not violence. Let us sell our vision and not threaten the people with violence. A good leader doesn’t threaten; he honours the people and lets them buy into his ideas. At the end of the day, may the one whom God has chosen win this election,” he added.
In addition to his call for peaceful political engagement, Apostle Antwi also addressed the youth and the broader population, encouraging them to embrace humility, respect for authority, and commitment to God’s work. He emphasized the importance of leading a God-fearing life and learning from those in positions of leadership.
“We urge the youth to respect authority and those who have oversight responsibility over them because God honours those who are humble and opposes the proud,” he said. “I encourage everyone to learn to be humble, to yield themselves, and to give themselves fully to the work of God, and He will surely lift them up.”
Apostle Antwi’s message serves as a timely reminder of the values that should guide the nation as it navigates the challenges of the election season. He called on all Ghanaians to prioritize the nation’s well-being over partisan interests and to work together to ensure that Ghana remains a beacon of peace and unity.
