The General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Rev. Emmanuel T. Barrigah has encouraged Ghanaians to participate in the ongoing registration exercise as part of the electoral process towards the 2020 December polls.
He said this would give everyone 18 years and above the opportunity to exercise his or her franchise as a citizen.
Rev. Barrigah, in an interview with the GPCC News Team when he visited the Calvary Presbyterian Registration Centre within the Ga East Municipality to observe the second phase of electoral process, he urged some Ghanaians at the center to comply with all the COVID-19 protocols.
“I want to urge all Ghanaians to come out and register because it is our social responsibility and as citizens of the nation we are enjoined to participate in all electoral processes as our civic right.
When you come, kindly observe the COVID-19 protocols because it is very important to avoid the spread of the virus,” the General Secretary advised.
Smooth Process
Doing this he said, it would help the Electoral Commission (EC) have a successful electoral process without recording cases at the centres.
Touching on his observation at the centre, he commended the officers for a smooth and friendly process after he took the opportunity of the visit to go through the process.
“This polling station is close to where I reside and it took me less than 10 minutes to go through the process,” he indicated.
According to him, the centre is practising the hygienic protocols which is encouraging.
The only problem, Rev. Barrigah indicated that, the social distancing was quite a problem but when he drew the attention of the people, they easily complied.
The General Secretary also called on the EC to intensify public education on social distancing to avoid the spread of the coronavirus disease.
Aged specially treated
Speaking to the wife of the General Secretary, Mrs Charlotte Barrigah who went through the process successfully said stressed that the process at the centre was friendly and calm.
According to her, with her observation the officers took better care of the aged by facilitating their comfort and quick registration
.Encouraging Ghanaians to come out from their various houses to register, she said, when she was at home she had so much fear but when he came she noted there was nothing to fear because they were taking the protocols seriously.
With an attempt to speak to some officers at the centre, they all refused to grant me interview for reasons best known to themselves.
