The Former General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi has commended the President, Nana Akufo-Addo for suspending the Upper West regional minister following reports of political vigilantism in the region.
He said, the President has demonstrated a strong political will and the best way to address the issue of political vigilantes in the country.
Apostle Antwi said the action affirms the President’s commitment to the application of the laws of the land without fear or favour, affection and without recourse to the political, religious or ethnic affiliations of any citizen of the land.
Speaking in an interview, the Apostle stated that, “The authorities must put their feet down and make sure whoever is found in such a situation is dealt with to restore sanity in the country,” he noted.
Mr Sulemana Alhassan who has been suspended as a Regional Minister was alleged to have instructed the release of some NPP thugs who were arrested after they attacked some officers of the Upper West National Disaster Management Organisation.
He has denied the allegation against him but that did not stop the president from cracking the whip.
In a desperate attempt to end the act of vigilantism in the country, the president suspended Sulemana Alhassan from office.
Doing that, Apostle Antwi said would serve as a sign of warning to other authorities who are hiding behind the mask to influence political vigilantism.
According to the Man of God, he believes the suspension is part of steps being taken by the government to ensure law and order and to guard the sanctity of rule of law in the country.
Suggesting ways to address the security concerns in the Country, Apostle Antwi urged the police to be up and doing pointing out that, there should be frequent sweeps around major hideouts of Criminals.
“I am also appealing to the Judiciary that, when such cases come, they should not be too quick to grant bails. Again, they should quickly deal with them so that those who are innocent can be set free and those who are guilty sentenced,” Apostle appealed.
He urged government to equip the security agencies in the country with necessary resources in order to deliver on their mandate.
