An Appreciation ceremony has been organised for the immediate past General Secretary, Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi for his meritorious service to the Council for the past eight years by the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) in Accra.
Apostle Antwi was honoured with a citation and an undisclosed amount in a cheque presented to him to express appreciation for his selfless leadership to the Council.
As part of his achievement, he had transformed the leadership over the past eight years not only to reflect on the unity among the Body of Christ especially among the GPCC Family, but the quality of human resource at the National Secretariat.
Apostle Antwi was praised for his consistent engagements with the media as well as championing a close working relation with sister church councils which have strengthened the GPCC’s advocacy and prophetic role as a gatekeeper of the nation.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President of GPCC, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah on behalf of the National Executive Council (NEC) extended his heartfelt appreciation to Apostle Antwi for his hard work and outstanding achievements for the last eight years when he assumed the high office as the General Secretary.
“As the NEC prayerfully sought the face of the Lord eight years ago for a new General Secretary to lead the transformation of the National Secretariat and the council as a whole, we were left in no doubt as to your choice and the special circumstances behind that choice. Looking back eight years ago as a Council and where we are now, we can only lift up our hands and give God Almighty the glory for his works in GPCC through Apostle Antwi,” he noted.
Giving some fraternity messages, the Secretary General of Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Rev Fr. Lazarus Anondee commended Apostle Antwi for his team spirit which brought to bear in their meetings and interactions.
“Your passion and commitment to work with others is very commendable” he said.
The General Secretary to the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Rev, Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong pointed out that, during the tenure of office of Apostle Antwi, the General Secretaries of the GPCC and CCG had a formal agreement to work together to promote church unity and national development.
“Your tenure of office saw a significant deepening of ecumenism and inter-faith relations in the country. In the area of good governance, your contribution was phenomenal,” Rev Opuni-Frimpong noted.
Rev Opuni-Frimpong applauded him for the advocacy role he played in the 2016 General Elections contributed immensely to the political peace and stability the country enjoys today.
In his bid to strengthen the inter-faith unity and democratic governance, the Chairman of the Civic Forum Initiative (CFI), Major General (rtd) Nii Carl Coleman mentioned that, Apostle Antwi had indeed been a pillar of support to the CFI and a worthy representative of the GPCC who contributed to shape the course of the country’s political destiny through seminal work and advocacy of the CFI and the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG).
“He was largely instrumental in getting the GPCC members in the regions to actively participate and support the activities of regional CFIs,” he added.
The ceremony was climaxed with songs of praise and prayer for the family.
