The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has organised an induction ceremony for the newly appointed General Secretary, Rev Emmanuel Teimah Barrigah in Accra last month.
The core mandate of the General Secretary of the GPCC is to perform its functions as the face of the Council, and to ensure the implementation of the five-year strategic plan which seeks to promote the socio-economic and democratic development of the country.
The President of GPCC, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah swore Rev. Barrigah into office and assured him of their cooperation as the National Executive Council (NEC) to deliver on his mandate to ensure GPCC continued to be the lead advocate for the unity of the Body of Christ in the country for the next four years.
“On behalf of NEC, I congratulate you on your attainment to the high office as the General Secretary of this great Council and I welcome you into the “Hot Seat”,” he said.
Apostle Prof. Onyinah commended the past General Secretary, Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi for his tremendous service to the council.
“Your transformational leadership over the past eight years has not only reflected on the unity among the Body of Christ especially among the GPCC Family, but the quality of human resource at the National Secretariat has together strengthened our advocacy and prophetic role as gatekeepers of our nation,” he added.
Responsibilities of Leaders
As the Main Speaker of the ceremony, Rt. Rev. Samuel N. Mensah delivered his sermon from 1 Kings 17: 1-6 to instigate the leaders at the ceremony and the General Secretary as he assumed office.
Taking lessons from the story about Elijah, he underscored some key principles they needed to adhere to as leaders, pointing out that, leaders should “have a vision of what they would want to be” because when it comes to vision, leaders could not delegate.
“As the new General Secretary, what vision are you bringing on board since you are moving from a denomination to a Council where the games are different, the rules are different, the dynamics are different and the aims are different, therefore there is a need to have a mental picture of where you want to be and what you would want to bring on board,” Rev. Mensah added.
He further stated that, “Not everyone in your life will help you fulfill your dream”, therefore he cautioned the new general secretary that, not all the people around him would help him fulfill his dream, because some would sabotage him and others would feed him with false stories, but it would be up-to him to work with them closely to know the good and bad nuts.
“The things that brought you here are not the same things that would take you to your next level because the dynamics would change,” he reiterated.
Rev Mensah advised leaders to take into consideration how their decision would affect their followers and in the midst of crisis identify the magnitude of their decision, because they were responsible for taking constant decision about people, crisis management and strategic management.
In his acceptance speech, Rev Barrigah expressed his appreciation to the NEC for appointing him to the high office and he pledged to work diligently with the council to take GPCC to greater heights.
He commended his predecessors and promised to seek their advice in order to continue the great work they started.
Rev Barrigah holds a Diploma in Theology from the Maranatha University College; a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Ministry from Victory international Bible Training Institute and a Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Union University, United State of America (USA).
